The second generation
Taking Over the Family Kennel
After Erik Bergishagen Sr. passed away in 1952, the kennel was left in the hands of his son. Erik, then 23, registered the kennel in his name and continued to run it as a family business. While his father bred Setters and Pointers, Erik’s passion was Labrador Retrievers.
The first Labrador to come to Jagersbo was Jock of Athabaska, sired by Ch. Shed of Arden. Jock arrived in the spring of 1946, and Erik finished Jock’s championship when he was just 17. He went on to show more than 200 dogs of many breeds to their championships. In 1962 he purchased a German Wirehaired Pointer and, over 13 years, bred 19 litters and 16 champions.
Erik died peacefully at his home on August 2, 2015. He is greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Member and director of the Detroit Kennel Club; First Vice President 1980–1987; President from 1987.

Licensed to judge, later including the Sporting Group and Best in Show.

Morris Animal Foundation
Trustee Emeritus; Canine Vice President from 1992 to 1996.

AKC Delegate
American Kennel Club Delegate for the Detroit Kennel Club.
